The Chinese company, China Tower, becomes the world’s largest tower company in the world following in the footsteps of India’s Indus Towers. As Indus Towers is a joint venture between three telecom competitors- Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea similarly China Tower will function on account of China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom. In order to reduce the cost incurred in setting up a tower, telecom companies often share them.

India’s Indus Towers held the title of being the world’s largest telecom tower company for the last eight years. A humongous amount of traffic has propelled China Tower to become world leader overtaking India.

There are more than 1.17 lakh towers in India owned by Indus Tower. These towers function by routing every five mobile calls made in India. The company is now working on setting up of ‘smart poles’ which can emit telecom signals and can also have LED lamps.
