Google forayed into Uber’s area of operation with the launch of a ride-sharing service in the San Francisco area.Google had started a pilot program in May this year with the launch the new Waze Navigation App. It allowed thousands of San Francisco workers to carpool rides to and fro from their workplace. It is all set to make it available for commuters of the entire San Francisco area by this fall.
Waze plans to give tough competition to Uber and Lyft as they operate only as a taxi –on demand. Google’s Waze proposes to build a connection between riders and drivers who are on the way to the same place. The company also aims to keep the fares as low as possible so that drivers will not operate as taxi drivers.
Google had invested about $258 million in Uber in 2013 but have recently become competitors .Both are also in a race to develop a driverless car.
