Google is reported to acquire a data science and machine learning community Kaggle very soon. It is expected that Google will be making the official announcement as early as possible after hosting their Cloud Next conference in San Francisco this week.

CEO Anthony Goldbloom along with company CTO Ben Hamner founded Kaggle in 2010 which currently has about half a million data scientists on their platform. Kaggle as a platform hosts data science and machine learning competitions and it is understood that they are well ahead of their competitors like DrivenData, TopCoder and HackerRank.

Google and Kaggle few days back got together and hosted a $100,000 machine learning competition around classifying YouTube videos and it is understood that the acquisition of Kaggle by Google is more about Kaggle’s community than about their technology. Since their inception, Kaggle has raised around $12.5 million.
