Shell Oil Company, a US-based subsidiary of multinational oil major Royal Dutch Shell is envisaging on insourcing it’s outsourced IT with the opening of a global IT hub in Bangalore, India. This center will perform in-house software development and cloud operations.
According to the CIO of Shell, Jay Crotts, the main objective is to concentrate on building an in-house delivery centre in Bangalore to leverage the available talent base to improve the processes. They also plan to bring in IT cloud operations by the middle of next year. This strategy to insource is in tune with other large multinationals that are setting up IT operations in different regions for reasons like easy access to skilled labor at low cost and proximity to customers.
The Bangalore office will eventually become a major delivery centre for the company. There are many companies such as AstraZeneca that are establishing IT delivery hubs across the world to leverage location advantage.
