GE Oil & Gas and Diamond Offshore Drilling entered into an alliance for the maintenance of Blowout Preventer System (BOP). This is the first time maintenance of a basic component of offshore drillers has been outsourced to oil service organizations. In the light of this agreement, GE will manage the Blowout-Preventer System (BOP) on the four Diamond Offshore’s 6th generation drill ships. This agreement also includes GE purchasing the BOP systems for $210 million. These drillships are presently located in the Gulf of Mexico.
Under the new system, Diamond Offshore will be assimilating data through GE’s monitoring and analytics solutions. It will help in quick decision making and planning to meet industry standards for drilling systems. This alliance will help Diamond Offshore in streamlining operations and maintenance. It will further help in lowering the recurrence and duration of downtime. This will also augment Diamond Offshore’s functional excellence giving it an edge over its competitors.
