Cisco’s strategic imperative to get into the Internet of Things got a much-needed boost with its plan to acquire Jasper Technologies Inc. Jasper Technology is a cloud-based Internet of things platform providing services for web-connected embedded devices.
Last year, in October Cisco, acquired ParStream which allows companies to analyze the huge amount of IoT data and store it in real time.
Cisco and Jasper envisage providing an IoT service platform that will be able to support billions of devices connected to a particular network. Jasper will also bring in about thirty-five thousand clients along with twenty-seven service providers spread across the globe.
Cisco further proposes to augment Jasper’s Internet of Things platform by providing security to all the devices connected to it. This acquisition will enhance Cisco’s position in the Internet of Things market.
