Staunton has recently taken the decision of outsourcing the process for recruiting, hiring, training and coordinating the substitute teacher program by outsourcing the service to Source4Teachers. As other school divisions across the state that currently use the services of Source4Teachers reported “very positively,” about their experience, Staunton Schools thus also entered into an agreement with the company.
“In essence, Staunton City Schools is outsourcing our substitute program to include teachers, instructional assistants and clerical staff,” Jon Venn, human resources director for the school division and the city said. However, this outsourcing decision does not include the cafeteria workers, bus drivers, or the maintenance workers.
Using an outside company makes it easier to recruit enough substitute teachers to cover the emergency needs of a school division, because substitute teacher management is the primary goal of that company.
“Like any new program that requires change for all stakeholders, there will be typical ‘bumps in the road,'” Venn added. “However, we are pleased with all aspects of the program to date and are committed to making this a viable program for Staunton City Schools.”
